MIDDLETOWN: A mass was celebrated Thursday at St. Agnes Church, Atlantic Highlands, for Dr. John M. Carr, who died May 15 at his home, Croydon Hall, Leonardo.
Dr. Carr was born in Boston [Nov. 29, 1909] and had lived in Summit before moving to the township 37 years ago.
In 1947, he founded Croydon Hall Academy, a preparatory school for boys. He was president of the school until 1975, when he retired and the school was closed.
He was invested into the U.S. Assn. of Master Knights of Sovereign Military Order of Malta by Cardinal Francis Spellman in 1964.
Dr. Carr also was a trustee of St. Anselm's College, Manchester, N.H., a former president of the college's Alumni Assn., and a commissioner of the Monmouth County Library Assn. [it is believed he was a trustee of the Middletown Library].
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and a member of its Holy Name Society.
Surviving are a brother, William, Atlantic Highlands; and four sisters, Esther Cavanagh, the township, Margaret Lynch, Canton, Mass., Mary Duffy, Milton, Mass., and Eileen McCrevan, Dorchester, Mass.
Dr. Carr will be buried in Massachusetts. Posten's Funeral Home, Atlantic Highlands, was in charge of arrangements.
